Nubia is originally from Blue Island, IL (born and
raised), attended high school in Lake
Mills, WI
(sophomore-senior years), and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Twin
Cities with a Bachelor of Arts in Chicano Studies (with a minor in Women’s Studies). She also has a Master of Public Policy
(emphasis in Public and Private Leadership and Nonprofit Management) from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public
Affairs.
As
a student, Nubia
was greatly involved with La Raza Student Cultural Center, serving on their
board several times, served as the co-chair of the National Association of
Chicana and Chicano Studies Midwest Regional Conference Committee, and the Save
Chicano Studies Support Group.
Nubia is bilingual (English and
Spanish) and has been to Mexico
a great deal (parents are originally from Zacatecas, MX) and is hoping to go to
Peru
some day soon to meet her husband’s side of the family. She has two daughters, Isabella and Giselle
(both under the age of 5!), who are a handful, but lots of fun.
