The University can be an overwhelming experience for incoming first-year students. The MLK program is interested in providing you with a smooth transition from high school life to University life – it is important for your first encounters at the University of Minnesota to be rewarding. By pairing you with a more experienced, knowledgeable mentor, we hope that the transition process to such a new and different environment is easier, more welcoming, and as a result, more rewarding. A successful mentor/mentee relationship can help you succeed at the University of Minnesota!

Student Activities Office Join a group! More than 600 student groups are registered with SAO, including academic societies, cultural centers, sports clubs, polticial action groups, and fraternities and sororities.
Commuter and Nontraditional Students Getting involved is a great way to meet people and feel part of the campus community.
Events, Arts, and Entertainment Located in the heart of the Twin Cities' thriving arts environment, the University of Minnesota is a major contributor to the cultural richness of the community. Come enjoy its art galleries, museums, theater productions, dance programs, concerts, lectures, and films.
Leadership You are invited to explore the wide range of leadership and student engagement initiatives here at the University of Minnesota. The programs and resources are designed to provide you with real-world leadership training and experience, often beyond campus and within the greater Twin Cities community.
Sports, Athletics, and Recreation You can meet new people, work out, and have fun by taking advantage of the University's sports services. You can use Twin Cities campus facilities to exercise alone, or you can play group sports by joining an intramural team or sport club. No matter what your skill level, you can find a campus activity that will help you stay in shape or play a sport.
